Bio: From British Columbia, Bass-Baritone Chad Louwerse is an active opera and oratorio singer and recitalist. He debuted in Europe with l'Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg as Bernadino in Berlioz' Benvenuto Cellini. He has performed roles with Montreal Opera including Sirocco in Chabrier's L'Etoile where Claude Gingras of La Presse stated that "for pure comedy, first distinction goes to Chad Louwerse". He has also performed with Pacific Opera Victoria, Vancouver Opera and Edmonton Opera. An active oratorio singer and recitalist, Chad's concert repertoire includes the Bach Mass in B minor, the Brahms and Mozart Requiem and Mendelssohn's Elijah. He has collaborated with the Vancouver Symphony, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Les Violons du Roi, among others. He is a winner of both the CBC Westcoast Performance Pacific Spotlight competition and the Début competition and has given recitals broadcast on CBC Radio Two. Chad teaches privately and is also Assistant Professor at Western University. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at Western University where he studied the post-tonal Lieder of Czech composer Viktor Ullmann. He teaches a diverse private studio with students across a broad age and ability spectrum. An active clinician, he enjoys adjudicating festivals, competitions and offering masterclasses.
