Samantha Loomis is an active voice teacher in the Cleveland area, offering private voice lessons for ages 6 and up at the Westlake Music Academy. Samantha also directs the Children's Choir at Westlake United Methodist Church. Samantha holds a BM in Vocal Performance from Ohio Northern University, and an MM in Voice Pedagogy from the University of Southern Maine where she studied under internationally acclaimed opera singer Dr. Malinda Haslett. During graduate school, Samantha spent her time teaching voice and piano to a full studio from ages 6 to 70 at the Gorham School of Music. She also taught undergraduate voice lessons at the University of Southern Maine on their adjunct faculty. Samantha greatly enjoys helping students prepare for auditions, competitions and performances. Although she enjoys teaching at the high school and undergraduate level, Samantha specializes in teaching voice to young singers ages 6 through 12. Samantha believes that everyone can learn to sing and that starting young can greatly help students in their vocal development. Samantha believes that private voice lessons for young singers can also be greatly beneficial in helping to prevent vocal injury later in life. She also believes that voice lessons with young students require a special approach, focusing on developing technique and musicianship through games, movement, and fun exercises aimed towards ear training, diction, release of tension, breath management and breath support, all to be applied to repertoire.
