Jacob Ven Huizen is a composer, conductor, educator, and singer.
A consummate performer in the theatrical and musical arts, Jacob is known locally as a well-rounded musician and performer. Frequently found on the performance stage, he is well known for his vocal ability and warm tone. As a performer he has been awarded several outstanding soloist awards, is the 2-time winner of the Cyndy Rowenhorst Competitive Vocal Scholarship and received 2nd place in both Classical and Musical Theatre categories at the regional NATS Voice Competition.
As a composer he has recently specialized in band repertoire, receiving several commissions for ensemble performances at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conferences in Des Moines, IA. His music has also been performed internationally by the Northwestern College A cappella Choir on their international tour to Taiwan back in 2016. Jacob is an avid conductor of his own music conducting premieres of his works and doing workshops with commissioners. Jacob has written for a wide scope of skill levels ranging from Junior High to Collegiate level and has composed for a variety of mediums including band, choral, solo voice, chamber music, music for the stage and more.
Jacob is a graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City, IA where he holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal Music Education. He has studied composition under Dr. Luke Dahn and Dr. Heather Josselyn-Cranson. He is currently the 7-12 Director of Choirs at West Lyon Community Schools in Inwood, IA
