Bio: MARIA DEL PILAR, soprano, completed her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at the Conservatory of Antioquia University in Colombia. And earned a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Azusa Pacific University, participating in their opera program singing Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and The Mother in Weir’s Vanishing Bridegroom. In her native Colombia, she performed leading operatic roles in all the major theaters of the country. Her operatic roles include Musetta (La Boheme), Micaela (Carmen), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), La Condesa Carolina (Los Gavilanes), and Luisa Fernanda (Luisa Fernanda). Ms. Pilar's solo appearances in oratorio, sacred, and symphonic literature embrace Händel's
Messiah, Haydn's Creation (Gabriel), Vivaldi's Gloria, Mozart's Requiem, and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
At present, Ms. Pilar is partnered with composer and pianist Dr. Edward David Zeliff in Opus 2, a duo dedicated to the creation, discovery and performance of original and exotic repertoire from a variety of genres and styles of music. She is also a member (since its inception) of the vocal/instrumental performance group Musica Anima. In addition to her dedication to teaching voice and beginning piano to young and adult students both privately and at the Yamaha and Music Tree schools, Maria Del Pilar is now committing her time to the discovery of the development of Colombian art song which she will present at California State University, Los Angeles in the spring of 2019 and then at other colleges and universities throughout the United States.
