Holly Michelsen is passionate about singing and performing. Most of all, her favorite thing is teaching and learning about the voice. Her musical versatility enables her to teach classical, musical theater, and contemporary voice in her hometown, Spanish Fork, Utah. She earned her degree in Vocal Performance from Utah Valley University in May 2019. Holly has been teaching voice since 2016, and works with students of diverse backgrounds and experiences in singing.
Holly has had the opportunity to work with some amazing vocal teachers as well. She started taking voice lessons in Junior High from Cecily Bills, (M.A.) and worked with her at Utah Valley University from 2015-2017. Cecily helped her develop her classical and musical theater voice. Holly also learned classical and contemporary techniques from Jeanice Woodbrey from 2013-2015 and in the Summer of 2018. She’s studied opera voice with Dr. Isaac Hurtado from 2018-2019 and has participated in UVU operas from 2017-2019. She’s also taken master classes and received vocal instruction at UVU from Dr. Melissa Heath, Dr. Juan Pereira, Connie Jensen (M.A.), Serena Benish (M.A.) Dr. Reed Criddle, and Dr. Demaree Brown.
When Holly is not teaching, she is performing. For UVU’s 2018 opera scenes, she played Adele from “Die Fledermaus” in The Laughing Song and Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow. She has recently enjoyed the role of Sally in “Die Fledermaus” with the UVU Opera (January 2019) and participated in UVU's opera scenes (April 2019); Der Hölle Rache from “The Magic Flute” (playing the Queen of the Night), and Bevo al tuo fresco sorriso from “La Rondine” (playing Lisette) for UVU’s Spring 2019 Opera Scenes. She’s also currently learning the role of Frasquita in “Carmen” with the Utah Vocal Arts Academy Summer Program, and will be performing that in July 2019.
