Title: Adjunct Professor of Voice
Bio: Baritone Daniel Megli is an experienced performer who has shared the stage with some of opera’s elite singers. Most recently he bowed as the Jailor in a gala performance of Puccini’s Tosca with Dimitri Pittas, Elizabeth Blanke-Biggs, and Mark Delevan. Daniel has also toured the United States with Teatro Lirico d’Europa where he was seen as Angelotti in Tosca, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, and Count Ceprano in Rigoletto. In 2016, Mr. Megli originated the role of Boaz in a world premiere performance of Ruth at Charleston’s Gaillard Center. The same year Daniel appeared as Scarpia in Peach State Opera’s touring production of Tosca where his powerful performances were met with critical acclaim throughout the Southeast. Daniel has also appeared on the operatic stage across the US in roles such as Marcello in La Bohéme, Count Almaviva in La Nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Mr. Gobineau in The Medium, and Peter in Hansel and Gretel.
In addition to his operatic roles, Daniel is a seasoned concert performer. He has been featured as the baritone soloist in Franz Liszt's seldom performed masterpiece Via Crucis. He also appeared at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival as a featured soloist with the Charleston Spiritual Ensemble during their concert in homage to black classical composer R. Nathaniel Dett. In addition, Daniel has been the baritone soloist for Brahms' A German Requiem, Händel's Messiah, Vaughn Williams' Five Mystical Songs, Rutter's The Mass of the Children, and Holsinger's Easter Symphony.
Mr. Megli has trained with some of the top instructors and coaches in the industry, including Metropolitan Opera assistant conductor Joshua Greene and baritone Nathan Gunn. He began his vocal training with Metropolitan Opera tenor Harold Meers before moving to Charleston, SC to study with renowned vocal instructor Scott Flaherty. When not performing Daniel maintains a busy teaching schedule, boasting a full private studio as well as holding a position as Adjunct Voice Instructor at College of Charleston and maintaining staff voice teacher positions at Cane Bay High School and Musical Theatre Center.
