Title: Soprano and Singing Teacher
Bio: Verity Bramson is a freelance soprano and singing teacher, in demand in London and the south east of the UK. She is currently completing an MA in Voice Pedagogy with the University of Wales Trinity St. David and Voiceworkshop, and has a special interest in voice rehabilitation. Her teaching has a strong technical basis, aiming to dispel many of the common myths surrounding classical vocal technique. She uses elements of yoga and pilates as well as Accent Method Breathing exercises to address the singing body as a whole, tailoring each lesson to the pupil, no matter what age or stage. Her natural empathy and ability to draw upon her pupils’ personal interests aims to to instil a lifelong love of singing beyond the teaching room. As well as teaching singing, Verity also has experience leading choirs, and teaching music theory (including academic music up to A Level) and beginners piano. She has a UK driving license and a full DBS. Born in Malvern, Worcestershire, she studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, where she gained Distinction in Vocal Studies under the tutelage of Sophie Grimmer and Patricia Rozario OBE, and at Cambridge University where she gained an honours degree in Music alongside a choral scholarship with the Choir of Sidney Sussex College. Her postgraduate studies were generously supported by the William Gibbs Educational Trust as a scholar at St. John’s Hyde Park. She continues her vocal studies privately with Dr Jenevora Williams. Operatic roles include Gretel 'Hansel and Gretel' and Novice ‘Suor Angelica’ (Opera in the Meantime), Second Woman 'Dido and Aeneas' and Amore/ Damigella ‘L'Incoronazione di Poppea’ (Ensemble Orquesta), Miss Wordsworth ‘Albert Herring’ and Zerlina ‘Don Giovanni’ (scenes), Andrea 'Jerry Springer the Opera' (CUOS) and two world premieres: Tiger in Kate Whitley's ‘Paws and Padlocks’ for Blackheath Halls Children's Opera and Elizabeth Barnsley in Stephen McNeff’s ‘Banished’ directed by Elaine Kidd and conducted by Jessica Cottis. Verity has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Minack Theatre and Birmingham Symphony Hall. Concert repertoire as a soloist includes Mozart ‘Mass in C Minor’ and ‘Coronation Mass’, Chilcott ‘Requiem’ Mozart, Handel 'Saul' and ‘Messiah’, Bach ‘St Matthew Passion’, and Britten’s ‘Les Illuminations’ with the London Meridian Players at St James's Piccadilly, as part of the Seeklang Festival, Switzerland, and the Muswell Hill Music Festival, London. A regular performer of classical crossover repertoire, in the 2017 season Verity joined the company of Thursford Christmas Spectacular as an ensemble member and step-out soloist. She has appeared on 'Michael McIntyre's Big Show' and performed with acclaimed duo Belle Voci, finalists in The Voice UK 2018.
