Title: Singing, Music and Performance Teacher

Bio:

Lizzy Clarke is a Toronto based singing, music and performance coach. She combines her anatomical knowledge of the voice and body with her experience as a performer and professional singer in her teaching method. She has a holistic approach to vocal coaching, encompassing elements of the voice as an instrument, expression and musicality. Her knowledge of voice science along with performance, music theory and songwriting makes her a unique and sought-after teacher. Her extensive understanding of the challenges that modern singers face and her patient and humanistic approach is what defines her teaching style.

Lizzy is a leading figure in the Toronto music community. She continues to pursue a deeper connection to the music culture in the city by supporting fellow artists with her work as a Vocal Coach and Producer. She mentors young singers and performers as they begin their careers and has transitioned this experience into a production and artist development venture. She is currently writing a book on practical vocal technique. The book will outline simple and easy vocal practices for different voice types and encourage growth through self-reflection. The book will cover the basics of vocal technique for pop/rock/contemporary with an introspective look at singers’ habits, addressing and exploring the emotions and catharsis that propel the voice.

Lizzy’s musical education began as a child with RCM piano lessons. Her studies continued in Cairo, Egypt, where she spent much of her youth learning classical voice practices and theory. At Cairo American College, she enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Music Program and the International Honour Choir (travelling to Berlin, Brussels). She also attended Interlochen Academy for the Arts. (Michigan USA) She has been performing professionally in Toronto, Canada since 2006, when she arrived to study jazz and performance at Humber College, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Applied Contemporary Music in 2010. Lizzy continues to expand on her own education through workshops and programs in Vocal Science, Speech and Language Pathology and music production. As a performer and professional singer, Lizzy has sung on stages around the world. She sang, wrote and managed the internationally acclaimed vocal trio, The Spandettes. She also manages and sings lead vocals for one of Toronto’s most celebrated event bands, The Intentions. As a songwriter, Lizzy writes and records material under her alter-ego ELSY. She uses this experience to help her students become comfortable with their voices and their stage presence. Her goal as an educator is to help each student build the kind of confidence that they need to use their voices as powerfully as they can. Every person who walks into her studio can expect patient, passionate and knowledgeable guidance in attaining their vocal goals.
