Bio: Cady Thomas Potts, Visiting Professor of Music at Blackburn College, is a passionate educator and versatile artist. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance with a certification in Vocal Pedagogy from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (2020) and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Truman State University (2018). Cady's excellence in musicianship and scholarship has earned her numerous prestigious awards, including seven first-place awards at National Association of Teachers of Singing competitions and top honors at the Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition. In addition to singing lead roles in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Speed Dating Tonight!, Hänsel und Gretel, The Impresario, and John Davies’ children’s opera, Pinocchio, Cady has been a featured soloist with Opera Edwardsville, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Symphony Orchestra, the Truman State University Symphony Orchestra, and the Messiah Project of the Ozarks. As an educator at Blackburn and in her private studio of young pianists and singers, Cady emphasizes evidence-based, sustainable vocal techniques, expressive musicianship, and self-discovery. She is committed to creating a warm, lighthearted environment where students can freely explore their voices, build confidence, and develop skills that resonate far beyond the studio. Originally from rural southwestern Missouri, Cady now resides in St. Louis with her husband, Adam, and their sweet beagle, Junie B.
