Bio:

Irasema Terrazas is a Panamericana University Professor. She currently teaches Singing Vocal Technique and Repertoire at the School of Fine Arts UP, and as external professor at the Postgraduate Studies Unit of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México UNAM.

Mrs Terrazas was conferred Doctor Honoris Causa degree by Claustro Doctoral Mexicano in 2020 and also Doctor Honoris Causa degree by Claustro Doctoral Honoris Causa in 2022, due to his contribution to the arts and education of her native country.

She handles a wide variety of musical styles. These include opera, soloist in symphonic music concerts, art songs recitals and musical theater. Her performances range from early music to a number of vocal genres of the XXI century. She has an operatic repertoire which features a variety of roles, some of which include world and Latin America premieres. Among them are – Blanche DuBois, Nedda, Venus, Susanna, Contessa di Almaviva, Leïla, Euridice, Micaela, Musetta, Pamina, Marina, Giulia, Adina, Flor, Silvia, Maria, Amy, Arianna, Amor, Inés, Karolka, Estela, Paulina, Freia, Helmwige, Waldvogel and Woglinde, sung with either independent Mexican and Latin-American companies as well as the National Opera. Furthermore, she has been invited to sing with Mexico’s most prestigious orchestras, besides numerous chamber ensembles. She has also given many recitals with programmes of Lied, Latin-American Music and Mélodie, in Mexico, North America, South America and Europe. She has been a star performer in international musical theatre plays, such as the Phantom of the Opera (titular role) and Les Miserables (guest star), mexican casts. Mrs. Terrazas is a dubbing artist for Disney Character Voices International Inc. and Universal Pictures, latin division. Throughout her career she has received a number of awards and distinctions including the Carlo Morelli and Francisco Araiza Singing Contests; Theatre Journalists Association's Best Performer in a Musical Theatre Play. She was awarded a scholarship from the ESKAS organization of Basle University to complete post-graduate studies in the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Switzerland. In a concert/ceremony in Bellas Artes Opera House she received a special recognition from Music and Theater Critics and Journalists Union for the professionalism and versatility shown in her career. The Mexican National Endowments for the Arts designated her a scholarship for the Performer of Outstanding Achievement -Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes-.

She has a Master's Degree in Theater and Performing Arts from Universidad Internacional de La Rioja and a BA from the Music Faculty, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México UNAM. She graduated with Honors and 'Gabino Barreda' Medal. She's currently pursuing Philosophical Anthropology Specialty Postgraduate Studies. She's a member of the Mexican Association of Teachers of Singing (AMMCA).
