Bio:

Lyric Coloratura Soprano, Maren Tenney received a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Utah. For over twenty years, she has worked as a singer, teacher, and vocal coach.

Most recently Maren has Contemporary Commercial Music certifications in Evidence- Based pedagogy programs: Vocal Function 101 and Mechanics of Mix and Belt [Maddie Tarbox—Shenandoah University]. She is also certified in the Neuro Vocal Method for Popular Microphone Styles. Her goal is to create customized care for her singers, crafting specific techniques and artistry towards the ideals of her singers of many styles. Her passion is to empower singing to unlock authentic self-expression through vocal performance.

Professionally, she has performed with the Ohio Light Opera Company, performing as Casilda in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Gondoliers and Alma His in Music Man. She has worked with La Musica Lirica in Urbania, Italy performing the role of La Suor Zelatrice in Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Other roles include Fiametta in The Gondoliers, Mercury in Offenbach’s Orpheus and the Underworld, and Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote with the Utah Lyric Opera. A native of Salt Lake City, Ms. Tenney has been a private vocal instructor for over twenty years.

Mare also holds a Masters of Arts in Education, working with Granite School District as an elementary music educator. Most recently, she worked in Curriculum and Development as a Beverly Taylor Sorenson Visiting Artist as a music curriculum writer, a presenter to 8,000+ students, and an instructional coach for music teachers. Her passion for teaching and her spirit of service shine brightly in all her endeavors.
