Soprano and San Diego native Katie Fillius McClave holds a M.M. in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. Her extensive research, expertise, and interest in child vocal anatomy and pedagogy have given her a unique viewpoint and set of skills as a teacher of children and teenagers.

Katie also has a vested interest in vocal health and rehabilitating injured voices, which she researched extensively while interning at the Fairview Voice Center for Voice Education and Therapy at the University of Minnesota’s Fairview Medical Center.

Katie has been featured as a soloist with the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra at the 2008 Nobel Conference and in the 2006 GSO Finale Concert as a winner of the orchestra’s aria competition. Katie was also featured as a soprano soloist with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra in 2009 and with the Colorado MahlerFest in 2008. She appeared as Teresita in West Side Story and in the chorus of Orfeo ed Euridice and La Bohème at the University of Colorado, and has also studied and performed at the Institute of European Studies in Vienna, Austria.

In addition to her vocal studies, Katie has extensive training in piano performance and pedagogy, accompanying, dance, and musical theater. She was the Music Director for CenterStage Theatre Company’s 2009-2013 summer seasons, and was a member and section leader of the Boulder Chorale and Boulder Camerata from 2006-2010. Katie is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), the latter of which she has served for multiple years on the Colorado state board.

From 2008-2019, Katie was the Co-Director and Co-Owner of Dana V. Music in Louisville, CO, a music school that serves upwards of 300 students per week. Katie is now focusing on her home studio and spending more time with her husband and 2-year-old son.
