Bio: Hailed as a versatile and expressive singer, Canadian mezzo-soprano Rosemarie van der Hooft has enjoyed an international career performing masterpieces of the baroque alongside new and varied contemporary works of classical composers. Highlights include appearances with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, New York Collegium, Boston Handel and Haydn Society, Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony New Music Festival and Aldeburgh Festival (England). Rosemarie is featured with the Aradia Baroque Ensemble on the Naxos label recording of Henry Purcell’s music for The Tempest.
Ms. van der Hooft’s interpretations of 20th/21st century repertoire have received international attention on broadcasts of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, live in concert with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, GroundSwell, Victoria Symphony, SoundStreams Canada among others. She regularly performs and premieres the work of established Canadian and international composers, frequently in collaboration with pianist, Laura Loewen.
Throughout her career Rosemarie has been involved in both performance and music education. She established and co-directed a mentoring program for young singers and instrumentalists called the Professor Bach Project. Having obtained a Masters of Music Performance from McGill University in Montreal, she has been on faculty at University of Manitoba and Canadian Mennonite University and is in frequent demand as a clinician and adjudicator. She currently works privately with singers as a teacher and wellness coach, including mindfulness meditation and yoga.
