Hailed as “an excellent tenor” by The Boston Globe, ENRIQUE TORAL is an artist who has won acclaim across North America and Europe for the beauty and incisiveness of his singing and for his dynamic stage portrayals. Enrique Toral has appeared on Broadway and with the New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Cincinnati Opera, San Diego Opera, New Orleans Opera, Opera Carolina, New Jersey State Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Opera Tampa, Sarasota Opera, El Paso Opera and with the Music Festivals at Ravinia and Tanglewood. An avid recitalist, Mr. Toral has appeared with the Glimmerglass Opera, Tanglewood Music Festival and the San Francisco Art Song Festival, honoring guest Ned Rorem and his works.

The tenor made his European debut singing the leading tenor roles in Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio and Il Signor Bruschino at the Teatro Sociale in Brescia, Italy. Other highlights include Falstaff under Seiji Ozawa - heard on NPR's World of Opera, and the world premiere of the triptych opera Central Park, creating the roles of Roy, the Man with Sun Reflectors in Beaser’s The Food of Love and The Boy in Torke’s Strawberry Fields - seen on PBS' Great Performances. A winner at numerous competitions, Mr. Toral was a winner at the District and Regional level in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a regional winner in the MacAllister Awards for Opera Singers, a recipient of a Gerda Lissner Foundation Award, the Athena and James Garivaltis Fellowship Award and a Fellowship Grant Recipient in the Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Awards. A passionate voice teacher, dramatic coach and stage director, Mr. Toral currently holds studios in San Diego, Los Angeles and New York City. He spends his summers with Opera NEO - Summer Opera Festival and Workshop where he is a Master Voice Instructor and Stage Director. He was on faculty at OperaWorks for the 2016 Winter Program. He served on the voice faculty at San Diego State University’s School of Music and Dance from 2006-2014 and served on voice faculty of the prestigious MFA program in the School of Theatre, Television and Film from 2008-2012. From 2013-2014 he was the Interim Director for SDSU's Opera Theater. Mr. Toral is the Past President of the San Diego Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He frequently presents master classes and workshops around the country and Mexico. He was the Director of Artist Programs with Opera Company of Brooklyn from 2001-2006 and Music Director of Lyric Opera San Diego’s Summer Academy from 2008-2011. He has stage directed productions of Die Zauberflöte, Roméo et Juliette, La Rondine, Die Entführung aus dem Serail and a double bill of Pasatieri's Signor Deluso and La Divina for Opera Company of Brooklyn. In the west coast he's directed Point Loma Opera Theater's production of The Merry Widow and Le nozze di Figaro for Opera NEO. His students and former apprentices have gone on to successful solo and stage careers, appearing on and Off Broadway, in National and International Tours and with major companies throughout the US and abroad including New York City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Opera de Bellas Artes, San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony, Baltimore Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Central City Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Aspen Music Festival and Opera Theater of St. Louis, to name a few.
