Title: Independent Voice Instructor
Bio: Ms. Mary McMurtery is now accepting private students in her new studio location of Las Vegas, NV. She previously served as Adjunct Voice Instructor at Western Illinois University School of Music, and as Voice Instructor on faculty of the Community Music School at Western Illinois University. Recent engagements include performing as Matron/Townsperson/Chairwoman/Milkmaid in Lionel Bart's Oliver!, and as an ensemble member in Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, both with WIU SummerStage; and as First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Muddy River Opera Company in Quincy, IL. Ms. McMurtery has appeared as soloist with the Monmouth Civic Orchestra, the McDonough Choral Society, the Galesburg Community Chorus, as well as guest artist on numerous concerts and recitals at WIU and locally in Macomb, IL. Operatic roles performed include Papagena (Die Zauberflöte, Mozart), Susanna (Le nozze di Fiagro, Mozart), Sister Dolcina (Suor Angelica, Puccini), Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi), Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict, Berlioz), Mercédès (Carmen, Bizet), and Ännchen (Der Freischütz, C.M. von Weber). Studies abroad include Opera on the Avalon in St. John’s, Newfoundland (2010); the Florence Voice Seminar in Florence, Italy (2007 and 2005); and at the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, Germany (2002). Ms. McMurtery holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University (2006) and a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance and German from DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana (2004).
