Title: Operachi Singer/Professor of Voice, Voice-Over, Spanish Linguist

Bio: Dr. Ulloa trains classical and almost all singing styles with the same technical approach leaning on breath compression as support. She also loves to champion and celebrate the many styles of Hispanic song (26 Spanish speaking countries) with specialty in folklore/classical styles from Mexico, including mariachi. Dr. Ulloa is a singer/songwriter and secondarily a pianist. She has been featured as a soloist on national and international concert stages, auditoriums, cultural centers, and sports arenas in Europe, Mexico, Peru, and the USA with seven CD recordings as a Mexican/Latin American Singer and singer/songwriter. She has also pioneered and created a unique niche as an Operachi singer, applying vocal technique to the songs she grew up singing in Mexico City. Many of her singers are crossover, changing styles with ease when committed to vocal training (CM singers). She enjoys a private studio of competition winners from NATS regional/local festivals, national mariachi champions and finalists of the Festival de la cancion latinoamericana (which she won 7 times). Dr. Ulloa holds a doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado (Vocal Performance/Hispanic Song), with MA and BA in music from Yale University (Piano) and UC Berkeley (Ethnomusicology). Her regional opera roles in California led to her performing in 14 languages while recording 7 CDs in Spanish, many of them prize winning with Parent's Choice, Parent's Council, GrIndy, and Disney awards. Dr. Ulloa has made Mexican art song and rancheras available to the voice world with 3 volumes of sheet music "Songs of Nationalist Composer Antonio Gomezanda" with Classical Vocal Reprints (www.classiclavocalrep.com) and Latin American Beginners Piano book (www.melbay.com/amazon). Her newest 2023 book, The Mariachi Voice will be the first and most comprehensive book available, covering mariachi history, pedagogy, diction, and song (Oxford University Press). She also trains voice-over actors and linguists on vocal production and accent reduction at annual national linguistic conferences (NAJIT) and privately. Dr. Ulloa has partnered as an author, with voice-overs, and songbook publications/distribution with MacMillan/McGraw-Hill, Pearson Music, Scholastic, Silver,Burdett Ginn. In the NATS-So You Want To sing Series entitled World Music Singing, she authored the first published materials available for vocal pedagogy, titled "The Mariachi Vocal Tradition". She was raised in Panama, Mexico City, and later in Madrid, where she trained in zarzuela and Spanish song.
