Gretchen Canfield

Style: Opera; Classical; Musical Theatre

Soprano Gretchen Albrecht Canfield, a graduate of the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, believes that healthy singing can be found in a classical approach which can then be applied to a variety of styles of music. Her work emphasizes the emotional life of the acting singer and its connection to good vocal production. Gretchen began her own career as a singing actor/dancer. She premiered in the title role in Lola, in New York City and was featured with John O’Hurley in the autobiographical show of film director Joshua Logan entitled, I Remember It Well. Gretchen toured nationally in the Broadway production of The Pirates of Penzance where she sang the role of Mabel. She appeared as soprano soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic orchestra under the baton of Charles Wendelken-Wilson and with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Henry Janiec. In Chicago Gretchen appeared at the Goodman Theatre, Forum Theater, the Chicago Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and was the director of choirs and soloist for the Naperville Congregational Church.
