Lauren Athey-Janka, soprano, is a professional singer and voice teacher. She serves on the voice faculties of Westminster Choir College and Rowan University and has a private voice studio in New York City. Lauren is excited to join the voice faculty this summer at Opera Viva! in Verona, Italy. This past summer, Lauren taught at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Vocal Program. Lauren gives masterclasses for schools, choirs and festivals on the vocal pedagogy, the changing voice, vocal health, performance techniques and vocal repertoire. Lauren's students successfully compete and place in vocal competitions yearly, including NATS, Classical Singer, and Schmidt. Lauren is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and serves as treasurer for NJ NATS.

Lauren contributed to and assisted Dr. Christopher Arneson in writing "Literature for Teaching: A Guide for Teaching Solo Vocal Repertoire from a Developmental Perspective". The book was published by Inside View Press, Inc. in June 2014 and released at the July 2014 National NATS convention in Boston with great success. Lauren and Dr. Arneson have co-authored a series of five anthologies for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone and bass, available at

Lauren has studied Voice Science, Voice Pedagogy, Voice Disorders and speech with leading professionals in voice science and vocal pedagogy. She has continued her vocal education with Westminster Choir College's Voice Pedagogy Institute and The David Jones Teacher Mentoring Programs. In 2013, Lauren won an Enrichment Grant with Music Teachers National Association Foundation Fund. She has taken advanced coursework at Temple University and has Master of Music degrees in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College and a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Boston University.

Lauren sang the role of the Angel in both in Ottorino Respighi's "Lauda per la Natività" with the Greater South Jersey Chorus and Gerald Finzi's "In Terra Pax" with Rowan University's Concert Choir and Orchestra in December 2017. Lauren performed a concert series in December 2016 with the Bay Atlantic Symphony as the soprano soloist. In 2016, Lauren performed with The Greater South Jersey Chorus as the soprano soloist in Mozart's Vesperae solennes de Confessore and Ola Gjeilo's Luminous Night of the Soul. Lauren presented a joint crossover recital with the Hillsborough Concert Series, including opera, art song and classical musical theater. She performed as the soprano soloist with Rowan University's chorus and orchestra in the world premiere of Donald McCullough's Song of the Shulamite. Lauren sang Vivaldi's Gloria and Ola Gjeilo's Dark Night of the Soul, with Ola Gjeilo and Morten Lauridsen in attendance, with Choral Arts of Southern New Jersey and The Bay-Atlantic Symphony. Lauren was the 2014 winner of the Milton Cross Young Artist Program, where she sang with the Minuetto Music Festival. Lauren also sang Rusalka with Sinfonietta Nova orchestra. A concert enthusiast, recently she has been the soprano soloist with Boston University, Choral Arts of New Jersey, Garden State Philharmonic, and Bay Atlantic Symphony. She has also performed with NY Opera Studio, CCM's Rising Star Singers, Florence Voice Seminar, Westminster Opera Theatre, and Boston University.

Lauren resides in New Jersey with her husband Vinny, whom she met in Italy, and their two rescued dogs, Rosina and Ruby.
