Bio:

Dr. Jennifer Pedersen is a soprano, voice teacher, and stage director, in the Greensboro area. Her performance highlights include, a cabaret performance with, composer and pianist, Rick Ian Gordon, the role of Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and the role of Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus with the Birmingham Music Club. In 2015, Jennifer premiered the role of Daphne Colgate in Gregory Vayda’s Georgia Bottoms with the Huntsville Symphony. In the past several years, she has performed roles with Opera Birmingham, most recently, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica and Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte. Dr. Pedersen has appeared as a soprano soloist in the complete version of Handel's Messiah and Bach’s B minor Mass with members of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. In 2013, she was a semi-finalist in the NFMC National Bienniel Young Artist Competition in Greenville, South Carolina. In addition, she was the 2010 and 2014 NATS Artist Award winner for the state of Alabama, and a 2010 and 2012 finalist in the National Opera Association (NOA) Opera Scenes Competition.

Dr. Pedersen has presented lectures in vocal pedagogy with an emphasis on nasality in the voice studio as well as the benefits of training the swallowing reflex through isometric exercises. “Nasality in the Voice Studio: The Positives and the Negatives.” is a lecture series that introduces students to concepts that we associate with a healthy singing technique. She has been a guest lecturer and stage director with Bella Voce, Druid City Opera Workshop, and, the University of Alabama Opera Theatre. In addition, she has written and directed abridged versions of Britten’s Paul Bunyan and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.

Dr. Pedersen’s served on the faculty of Mars Hill University, University of Montevallo, Birmingham-Southern, University of Alabama, and Samford University. Her voice students are frequently hired for regional productions in opera and musical theatre and have performed well at state and national competitions. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and currently serves as the Social Media/Webmaster Chair for the North Carolina Chapter and Mid-Atlantic Region. In addition, she serves as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Governor for the National Opera Association. Jennifer is on the voice faculty at Mars Hill University outside Asheville, NC.
