Bio: Melanie Wade Larsen holds a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. She was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society and had the priviledge of singing on a masterclass for internationally-known composer Libby Larsen. She holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance and won the Lucie C. Ruzicka music award. In November 2017, Ms.Larsen's article: "Shaking It Up: From RN to Vocal Instructor and Performer" was published by Classical Singer Magazine. Opera credits include comprimario roles with the New York Lyric Opera and Augusta Opera. Ms. Larsen has also performed in musical theatre productions with both the Augusta Players and Aiken Community Players. In fall 2014 she had the opportunity to serve as the musical director for "The Music Man" at the Aiken Community Playhouse. Additionally, she is a frequent soloist for local choral societies and other various programs in the Augusta area. Her most recent concert, titled "Songs for a Winter Afternoon", featured Opera, Classical-crossover, and Broadway/jazz repertory. Additional performance credits include the role of Hare in the children's opera,"A Day at the Beach," soloist for the 2016 & 2017 Silent Movie Night, "Miotas Ceol Graiocht" for the Westabou Festival, and the Augusta Symphony 2013 outreach program, "The Symphony Rocks." She is secretary of the Augusta Opera Club. Ms. Larsen has taught voice since 2007 and presently teaches for the Augusta University Conservatory, Musical Theatre Workshops, and maintains her Studio di Canto,her private vocal studio. Ms. Larsen's students have placed in both Allstate and Literary competitions, been selected for leading roles in musicals, and chosen for the prestigious Governor's Honors summer program. Her goal for students is to produce the "complete" musician with emphasis on solfege, sightreading and piano skills- all necessary for those aspiring a professional career in music as well as the accomplished amateur.
