Job Description / Duties

The Department of Music at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music (Voice). This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning in August 2023.

We are primarily seeking an accomplished and excellent applied voice pedagogue able to effectively train pre-professional singers in contemporary and classical singing styles. CCU graduates often go on to have successful performing careers in a variety of genres, therefore significant progress and development in the students’ applied voice studies will be expected. Candidates with secondary experience in commercial music, supporting CCU’s musical theatre and commercial music and jazz programs, will receive additional consideration.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate applied voice lessons (to students majoring in commercial music and jazz, musical theatre, music education, and voice performance), leading a weekly studio class, and preparing students for degree performances. The successful candidate may also teach other undergraduate music coursework based on the candidate’s expertise. Creative activity and/or research may include diverse areas of performance and pedagogy. Finally, this position requires service activities including attracting, recruiting, advising, and retaining students, and other service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
