Job Description / Duties

The College of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Voice within the Department of Music, starting August 2023. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching applied voice (in private and class settings) and courses in diction, vocal literature, stagecraft, and/or vocal pedagogy as needed within the Vocal Area; piano and minimal accompanying experience is required and experience directing or producing college-level opera/musical theatre is desirable. Continued efforts in performance and scholarly activity are expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Strong university-level vocal teacher and performer
• Preference given to baritone, bass, or mezzo-soprano applicants. All applications will be reviewed.
• Proven interest and ability in recruitment and advising
• Keyboard skills sufficient to adequately support vocal instruction
• Continued efforts in performance and scholarly activity are expected

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Job Requirements:
• DMA, DM, or PhD in Voice or related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Proven record of performance and scholarly activity at the regional and national level
• Commitment to teaching and working on a campus that values diversity and student success
• Understanding of appropriate approaches to recruitment for and teaching at a regional, comprehensive university
• Commitment to professional development and appropriate service to the department, college, and university is expected

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
• Work is sedentary in nature with 10 pounds of maximum weight to lift and carry
• Work during normal work hours and will occasionally include weekend and evening hours

The Department of Music: A unit in the College of Fine Arts, the ENMU Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music and has 13 full-time faculty members in addition to resource faculty. Programs include undergraduate degrees in music education and music performance, with minors offered in music, fine arts, piano, and music technology. The vocal area presently serves approximately 30 voice majors, and is staffed (including this position) by five area team-members: three tenure-track voice instructors, a tenure-track vocal coach/accompanist, and a tenure-track Director of Choral Activities.
