Job Description / Duties

Ashley Hall seeks candidates for the Upper School Choral Director and Voice Teacher. This is a full time position beginning in August 2017. Candidates should possess the ability to maintain and strengthen an outstanding choral program for the school. This position involves teaching the 7th and 8th grade choirs, as well as the school’s large Upper School Ensemble and the select chamber ensemble. The successful candidate will also teach approximately 15 voice students each week in private lessons. The choral director is also expected to oversee the school’s swing choir and collaborate on the annual musical.
Successful candidates will bring an educational vision, energy and external opportunities in an all girls environment. As Choral Director, responsibilities also include providing vision and direction for the choirs at Ashley Hall, and working within the Performing Arts Department establishing a national reputation for excellence in performance. Additionally, this individual will coordinate outreach, recruiting and honor choir events.
Candidates should have an experience with a wide range of repertoire including musicals, operas, and sacred music
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula, establish a supportive and engaging environment for students, work collaboratively with colleagues and parents and contribute to the rich life a thriving independent school environment.
Major Responsibilities/Activities

• 4 major concerts each year with each ensemble; including a musical, opera or Shakespeare production
• teach approximately 15 students privately and enter students and ensembles in regional competition
• tour on a regular basis
• Encourage workshops and competitions
• Engage the Charleston community through performances throughout the city

Qualifications / Required Skills

Master’s Degree in Choral Music

Proven experience conducting and leading a premiere vocal program in secondary or higher education
Minimum of five years teaching experience in secondary education.
Demonstrate the ability and knowledge to provide team leadership for planning and development for large -scale productions.
Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.

Highly developed interpersonal communication skills - Accomplished oral and written communication skills.
