Job Description / Duties

The Performing Arts Department at Rockford University invites applications for Adjunct Instructor of Voice (part-time/adjunct) starting in August 2022. Studio may consist of musical theater majors, music majors/minors, and non-majors. Teaching duties include maintaining an active undergraduate studio through weekly private lessons and monthly studio classes, in addition to collaborating with the department about voice juries, departmental auditions, and student recitals.

Additional teaching opportunities may include Treble Ensemble, Music Theory I or Fundamentals of Music, music or musical theater history, music in film, and opera workshop, depending on the departmental needs and candidate's qualifications and interests. An additional paid administrative opportunity may include Music Program Coordinator.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in voice performance, vocal pedagogy, or equivalent professional experience (MFA in musical theater will be considered, as well);
2. Successful college-level (including as TA) or equivalent teaching experience in voice;
3. Experience teaching musical theater styles and repertoire, with experience in both classical and CCM (contemporary commercial music) pedagogy; and
4. Extensive and varied artist-level performance experience, musical theater experience is welcomed.

The successful candidate must have an educational philosophy compatible with that of a private institution in a liberal arts environment.

Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue through early August. The semester-to-semester contract is renewable. Instructor is paid per student for twelve 30-minute lessons over the semester. Mileage reimbursement is available for qualifying distances. As such, this is an ideal one- or two-day-a-week position for someone in Chicago, Milwaukee, or Madison.
