Job Description / Duties

The Cedarville University Department of Music and Worship seeks a full-time, innovative, versatile male vocalist who is an accomplished applied voice teacher and who will effectively train pre-professional undergraduate singers in the classical styles. The ability to train singers in contemporary singing styles is desired. The selected candidate will serve as an active member of the music faculty by attending meetings, serving on committees, and participating in student recruitment and retention activities. The successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the artistic and academic environment at one of the nation’s top Christian universities. The Department of Music and Worship is comprised of twelve full-time faculty and sixteen part-time instructors. We offer a comprehensive music program. Our faculty and students present over 100 performances annually. The department offers BM and BA degrees as well as a graduate certificate in Worship Leadership. Cedarville University is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

Responsibilities:
Teach courses in Lyric Diction for singers, Applied Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, and direct the Opera Ensemble.
Participate in weekly Studio Class.
Serve as the Academic Advisor to undergraduate music students.
Actively recruit students into the department.
Contribute to departmental assessment efforts.
Maintain a professional career appropriate for the discipline.
Integrate Christian faith into all teaching and artistic pursuits.
Mentor and disciple students spiritually, academically, and artistically.
Develop and maintain collegial relationships in the department and across the university.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Position Requirements:

  • Terminal degree in Vocal Performance or Pedagogy, or equivalent terminal degree preferred; Master’s degree required; ABD may be acceptable with an understanding that a doctoral degree will be completed.
  • Tenor, Baritone, or Bass voice.
  • Record of successful college-level teaching. A minimum of five years collegiate-level teaching preferred.
  • Demonstration of professional-level artistry in the areas of vocal performance and pedagogy.
  • Excellent musicianship, including excellent keyboard skills to support instruction required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A personal commitment and relationship to Jesus Christ.
  • Qualified candidates must agree with and be willing to abide by Cedarville University's Doctrinal Statement, Community Covenant and general Workplace Standards.
  • This position is subject to the University's verification of credentials and other information required by law and Cedarville University policies, including the successful completion of a background check. This position is located in Cedarville Ohio and is pending budget approval.
