Job Description / Duties

The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) is seeking a mezzo-soprano, baritone or bass to join our faculty team as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Voice, guiding students and providing an artistic model in a dynamic performing arts conservatory setting. The UNCSA School of Music prepares students for professional careers and has a twofold goal: to enable them to attain their highest musical aspirations and to prepare them to succeed in a highly competitive profession. This full-time and multi-year contract position will begin in August 2020.
Major Duties
Recruit, teach, and advise a studio of highly qualified voice majors. Teach weekly lessons and master classes, other voice-specific courses required by the curricula, as well as fulfill other duties as assigned by the Dean. Participate in faculty performances and maintain an active artistic career. Maintain an appropriate presence on campus for full-time faculty, including participation in faculty activities

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Qualifications

• An earned master’s degree with appropriate professional experience equivalent to the terminal degree in music, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Evidence of a professional career in performance and/or scholarship with a strong emphasis on classical music and opera.
• Demonstrated experience and success in teaching at the college level, with a deep commitment to effective instruction and mentoring students in their professional development.
• A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in creative activity, teaching, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in music is preferred.
• Progressive artist with a strong understanding of today’s music industry and the diverse career possibilities available to young, emerging artists.
• Expertise in alternative musical styles and/or in areas such as diction, vocal pedagogy, vocal literature, and vocal heath.
• National/international recognition in creative activities.

• Demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher of students of varying backgrounds from high school through graduate levels.
• Demonstrated ability to serve as an active recruiter of high-caliber voice students.
