Job Description / Duties

The Department of Music (music.duke.edu) at Duke University in Durham, NC, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of the Practice in Voice (non-tenure track), with an anticipated start date in Fall 2025. We are looking for a dynamic and versatile colleague who will serve as the Coordinator of the Voice Area.
Position Responsibilities:
• Teaching: Primary teaching responsibilities include individual applied voice lessons, group classes, and vocal diction. The candidate will oversee the voice area and contribute to our Opera Theater program.
• Voice Area Leadership: As the sole full-time Professor of the Practice in Voice, the candidate will be expected to cultivate a positive and collaborative environment within the voice area. Responsibilities include evaluating and enhancing the voice program, fostering communication among faculty and students, and creating opportunities for student growth and development.
• Collaborative Engagement: The role involves coordinating and participating in the combined studio class, organizing and hosting voice area masterclasses, scheduling auditions and juries, and managing the departmental listserv for voice students. The candidate will also oversee student recitals and staff accompanists.
• Service and Governance: The candidate will be expected to participate actively in department performances, faculty recitals, and collaborations. Additional responsibilities include attending faculty meetings, serving on departmental and university committees, and supporting colleagues by attending performances, lectures, and recruitment events.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:
• A DMA or equivalent is required.
• A demonstrated record of artistic excellence in concert and/or opera performance.
• A commitment to cross-disciplinary initiatives and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
