Buena Vista University seeks a dynamic teacher who is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education for an Assistant Professor of Choral Music position, tenure-track. The preferred start date is August 2019.

We seek a committed educator and musician with solid performance skills to provide leadership in music education, someone who can bring imagination and creativity to the continued development of a successful vocal music program. We seek candidates with the demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with both internal and outside partners, including public/private high schools and professional music organizations, and with the demonstrated potential to contribute to the music faculty team in creating an innovative and inclusive learning environment. Additional expectations include collaboration with the Admissions Office in recruiting student participation and music majors to the program. Buena Vista University offers music degrees in performance, education, arts management and in music production & technology.

Duties include:
• Directing the choral music ensembles, including the concert choir
• Teaching undergraduate courses related to K-12 teacher preparation in music education, vocal diction, conducting, and music history
• Private voice lesson instruction

Qualifications include:
• Master of Music/Music Education or Doctorate in Music/Music Education
• Doctorate strongly preferred and required for tenure except in case of other exceptional professional accomplishments
• Minimum of five years of exemplary K-12 music teaching experience also preferred

We are looking for candidates who are excited to work in a Midwestern setting at a small, private university. Buena Vista University has an enrollment of about 700 full-time residential students. The city of Storm Lake has a population of approximately 11,000 and is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Iowa.
