Job Description / Duties

Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) to teach undergraduate courses in choral music that may include choral practicum, choral literature, lab choir, and conducting; supervise student teachers; conduct one or two of the university’s choral ensembles; provide service to the institution and to the profession; maintain an active agenda of research and creative achievement. Additional course teaching assignments are dependent upon the qualifications of the candidate and departmental needs. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Choral Activities to implement activities and goals for the choral program including the recruitment of undergraduate music education majors, as well as non-music majors for the choral music program. Appointment begins August, 2023.

The Department of Music at Miami University is housed within the College of Creative Arts, a division that also comprises the departments of Architecture + Interior Design, Art, Emerging Technology in Business and Design (ETBD), and Theatre. The department has a long history of preparing professional music educators, scholars, composers, and performers. Qualifications / Required Skills

Required: Doctoral degree in Music (DMA, PhD) by date of appointment, minimum of three years of choral ensemble teaching experience at the middle or high school levels. Position not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Consideration may be given to candidates with demonstrated success teaching at the college level, as well as demonstrated success leading pre-collegiate ensembles.
