Job Description / Duties

The FIU School of Music invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure earning Assistant Professor of Choral Studies (Director of Choirs).

Responsibilities consist of overseeing the FIU Choral Studies Program (Concert Choir, University Singers, Gospel Choir, Women's Chorus), teaching Choral Literature, Choral Conducting, and other undergraduate and graduate courses. Ensemble and course assignments will be determined based on the candidate's strengths and expertise. The Assistant Professor of Choral Studies (Director of Choirs) actively engages in recruiting local, national, and international undergraduate and graduate students and is also expected to actively recruit for the Vocal Performance, Music Education (Choral Track), and graduate Choral Conducting programs.

The candidate will also maintain a national profile within the profession and engage in creative activity, and/or research. As FIU is a research-focused university and this is a tenure-earning position, satisfactory progress toward tenure (e.g., performances, recordings, presentations, and publications at the national level) is also expected. Qualifications / Required Skills

Demonstrable experience conducting post-secondary choirs at a national and/or international level

A terminal degree, preferably a completed doctorate with an emphasis in Choral Conducting, is required at the commencement of employment

Evidence of excellence in high school and college/university-level teaching
