Job Description / Duties

The Position:
The Music and Stage and Screen Arts Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in Choral/Vocal Music and Music Education at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2022. The successful candidate will have experience teaching and administering choral ensembles, applied voice, and courses in choral/vocal music and music education; the knowledge, skills, and dispositional traits needed to teach and inspire future music educators; an extensive knowledge of choral repertoire; a desire to expand and diversify the profession of music education through course offerings, curriculum, repertoire, and recruitment (e.g., teachers, students, and teaching candidates) within PK-12 and collegiate settings; and the ability to establish successful partnerships with regional music teachers and music professionals. The standard teaching load is a 12.0 credit full-time load per semester.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities will include conducting and administering the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Concert Choir and other courses, based on interest and departmental needs. Teaching responsibilities may include choral ensembles, applied vocal lessons, music education courses, conducting courses, vocal pedagogy/choral techniques courses, and additional courses contributing to the mission of the department, college, and university. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to continue professional development and provide service to the department, college, and university.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications Required:
Earned a terminal degree (e.g., D.M.A., Ph.D., E.D.) in Choral Conducting or Music Education - ABD candidates may be considered, but must complete their terminal degree by July 15, 2022
Earned a certified teaching license in choral/vocal music education
Experience teaching secondary (middle/high school) choral music ensembles (minimum of three years) - commensurate experience may be considered
Experience teaching, conducting, and administering undergraduate choral ensembles
Knowledge, skills, and dispositional traits needed to teach and inspire future music educators
Extensive knowledge of choral repertoire
Desire to expand and diversify the profession of music education through course offerings, curriculum, repertoire, and recruitment
Ability to establish successful partnerships with regional music teachers and music professionals

Qualifications Preferred:
Experience teaching courses in choral/vocal music, music education, and applied voice
Teaching license that includes elementary classroom music
Experience leading music theatre (stage and screen arts) experiences

Note - If selected as a semi-finalist for the position, candidates will be asked to (a) submit three letters of recommendation, (b) provide audio/video recordings that showcase the candidate teaching/rehearsing secondary-level or collegiate choral (or commensurate) ensembles, and (c) provide audio/video recordings of (and programs from) recent secondary-level or collegiate choral (or commensurate) music performances for which they served as teacher/conductor.
