Job Description / Duties

The Music Department at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position, with an emphasis in Vocal Studies, to begin Fall Semester 2024. The preferred candidate will have earned a doctorate degree in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy, or a Master's degree with equivalent professional experience, and have experience teaching and working in a university setting. This position will involve teaching and overseeing courses in voice performance, including private lessons, Diction, Vocal Pedagogy, and Opera, as well as other courses depending on department needs. Responsibilities also include recruitment and retention, providing service to the University, profession, and community, and other duties as may be assigned. Responsibilities

Teach private voice lessons, vocal studies courses, and other music curriculum courses each fall and spring semester as assigned.

Actively promote the Music programs and emphases, and recruit new students.

Develop course content, outcomes, and evaluation systems for course offerings; provide assessment of program and course offerings in consultation with other music faculty.

Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and University policies and procedures.

Carry out special assignments, such as serving as directing or assisting with musical productions, as requested by the Department Chair.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications / Required Skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate degree in voice, or Master's degree with equivalent professional experience required.

Focus, interest, and expertise in teaching at an institution of higher learning.

Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Desire to work in a small department where all faculty are involved in teaching, productions, and institutional/community service.

Demonstrated interest in student success and active learning strategies.

Professional performance experience at the regional/national level.

 

Additional Information

Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2024, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2024. Annual salary of $56,000-$59,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
