Job Description / Duties

The Assistant Professor of Voice (Music) position is tenure-track, full-time, and benefits-eligible, beginning September 1, 2024. Duties are to teach undergraduate and graduate applied voice; teach coursework within the vocal curriculum according to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the Vocal Studies Area with the potential to work collaboratively with other areas within the Music Division or within the larger Conservatory, including Dance and Theatre; recruit and retain high caliber undergraduate and graduate voice students; maintain an active professional profile that reflects the career of a successful teacher/performer/scholar; contribute to the enhancement of all facets of the Vocal Studies Area; collaborate musically and artistically, both within and outside of the university; contribute to the performance, academic, and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by serving on graduate and faculty committees, as well as engaging in other Conservatory activities.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate must provide evidence of: (a) Successful and innovative experience teaching voice, preferably in a university setting; (b) Pedagogical skill in teaching varied vocal genres and styles to prepare students for successful and innovative music careers; (c) Significant professional experience as a performer/scholar; (d) Ability to recruit quality undergraduate and graduate voice students; (e) An earned terminal degree in vocal performance or vocal pedagogy, or equivalent professional experience. Preference given to tenors, though consideration will be given to any voice type.

Salary: $55,000-$65,000
