Job Description / Duties

POSITION
The Stetson University School of Music seeks an experienced and energetic educator/performer/scholar for a full-time tenure-track position in voice at the rank of Assistant Professor (Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano). The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of a vibrant, successful undergraduate voice program and enhance the School of Music's high standards of excellence in academics and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidate will teach applied voice and lead voice master classes; diction and voice repertoire classes; recruit high-quality students regionally and nationally; maintain an active professional profile; collaborate with a dynamic and prominent voice area of five full-time voice faculty members working closely with choral and opera directors; advise students on curricular and professional issues; work to mentor and assist students in developing broad professional goals, and work effectively with faculty colleagues and administration in service to satisfy the mission of the school and to advance the national prominence of Stetson University and the School of Music. Additional teaching responsibilities may be assigned according to the candidate's strengths in a secondary area and the school's needs. THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Stetson's School of Music (http://www.stetson.edu/music) is an exclusively undergraduate program known for its excellence, depth, and a long-standing reputation for the quality of its education. The school offers B.M., B.ME., and B.A. degrees, with majors in performance, music education, music theory, composition, and outside-field areas. A faculty of 45 (27 full-time and 18 part-time) serves approximately 225 music majors. The school has its own dean and holds full membership in the National Association of Schools of Music. Recent graduates of the School of Music are found on the stages of the world's great opera houses (including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and Covent Garden). In addition, they hold leadership positions in major symphony orchestras. They are faculty members of the most prestigious colleges and universities gaining admission to distinguished graduate programs in the United States and Europe.
Additionally, the School of Music is proud of the consistent placement of its graduates in public
school music education programs in Florida and throughout the nation.

THE COMMUNITY
DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 32,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona
Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.

SALARY
Salary is competitive.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate will have a proven record of performance excellence, effective teaching experience at the university level, and demonstrated success at recruiting, retaining, and mentoring voice students from diverse backgrounds. In addition, the ideal candidate will have outstanding musicianship skills, possess a broad knowledge of vocal repertoire, have a passion for working with undergraduate students, and have national performance experience while being poised to broaden their performance expertise internationally. We are especially interested in candidates who have a solid commitment to all aspects of diversity in our learning-centered community. A doctoral degree in performance or ABD status is required; however, a master's degree and significant professional performing and teaching experience may be acceptable in place of the doctoral degree.
