Job Description / Duties

The Notre Dame Department of Music seeks a dynamic collaborative pianist to serve as a full-time faculty vocal coach and music director. The ideal candidate, appointed in the Department of Music and concurrent in the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre, will demonstrate exceptional keyboard skills, fluency in a broad range of vocal styles, music directing experience in opera and musical theatre, and a commitment to repertoire from diverse cultures and underrepresented groups. Preferred qualifications: D.M.A or equivalent professional experience.

Primary responsibilities include coaching voice students in the Graduate Program of Sacred Music and serving as vocal coach and music director for mainstage productions of opera and musical theatre. Related duties include collaborating with faculty, staff, and students on opera and musical theatre productions and, depending on experience, the artistic direction of these productions. Additional responsibilities may include coaching and advising undergraduate voice students; assistance with special projects involving graduate and undergraduate voice majors; teaching collaborative piano; and administrative service. A portion of the faculty load will be devoted to maintaining professional engagements outside of Notre Dame.

The Department of Music is housed in the state-of-the-art O’Neill Hall of Music, shared with the Graduate Program in Sacred Music. O’Neill Hall opened in 2018, with two chamber/recital performance spaces. The University of Notre Dame is also home to the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, including the Patricia George Decio Theatre, Leighton Concert Hall, and Reyes Organ and Choral Hall.
