Job Description / Duties

Northwestern State University (NSU) seeks applications for a nine-month, tenure track, Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Director of Musical Theatre beginning August 7, 2023. NSU, a NAST accredited Theatre program, offers a BFA in Dance, Production & Design and Musical Theatre, and a BS in Theatre with a Concentration in Performance/Directing. The successful candidate will be responsible for Musical Direction of assigned departmental productions, teach Musical Theatre Performance 1 & 2, teach vocal technique to students privately and in a group class setting. Other assignments could include areas of expertise that support the department's curriculum including but not limited to; Acting classes from beginning to advanced and Theory & Sight Singing for Non-majors. Other job duties include serving on departmental, School of Creative and Performing Arts, and University committees; actively engaging in creative and/or scholarly research; active recruitment and advising responsibilities along with curriculum planning are included. A strong respect for and an ability to work well with colleagues is essential. We encourage applications from qualified candidates with a range of interests and experience in theatre.

Qualifications / Required Skills

A terminal degree is required; Ph.D./MFA; Basic piano skills are required. A strong knowledge of the musical theatre canon is required.

Salary: Rank is at the Assistant Professor level and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. $46,000 - $51,000
