Job Description / Duties

Northwestern State University (NSU) seeks applications for a nine-month, tenure track, Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Director of Musical Theatre Concentration beginning August 7, 2023. NSU, a NAST accredited Theatre program, offers a BS in Theatre with Concentrations in Performance/Directing, Musical Theatre, and a BFA in Dance and Production & Design. The successful candidate will be responsible for Voice training/coaching for students of all levels through private Voice Study and Acting classes from beginning to Advanced; Musical direction of assigned departmental productions; serving on departmental, School of Creative and Performing Arts, and University committees; actively engaging in creative and/or scholarly research; active recruitment and advising responsibilities along with curriculum planning are included. The position will require musical direction of at least one musical production each semester and teaching beginning through advanced performance classes. A strong respect for and an ability to work well with colleagues is essential. We encourage applications from qualified candidates with a range of interests and experience in theatre.

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D./MFA preferred; MA/professional experience will be considered. Basic piano skills are required. A strong knowledge of the musical theatre canon is required.
