Job Description / Duties

The University of North Alabama’s Department of Music, within the School of the Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences, invites applications for a Tenure-Track, Director of Opera/Musical Theatre and Assistant Professor of Music – Voice, beginning in Fall 2021. Tenor, baritone, or bass preferred, but all voice types are encouraged to apply. Experience teaching online and/or a willingness to do so is preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to direct two opera/musical theatre productions per academic year while maintaining excellence in teaching applied voice and related coursework such as vocal pedagogy and diction; develop and maintain an agenda of research and/or creative activities relevant in the field; perform recruiting activities for the department; attend faculty and other relevant meetings; mentor students in the department; and foster diversity and inclusion among students.

Qualifications / Required Skills

A terminal degree in a discipline of voice is required. Experience in teaching collegiate-level applied voice and directing opera/musical theatre is required. Experience teaching collegiate-level vocal pedagogy, vocal diction, and vocal literature is a plus. Candidates must have a proven track record of professional work related to opera/musical theatre. Experience teaching online and/or a willingness to do so is preferred.
