Job Description / Duties

The University of North Carolina, Greensboro is now accepting applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track Lecturer in Musical Theatre faculty position in the School of Theatre, College of Visual and Performing Arts. Musical Theatre, currently a minor, is an emerging program with strong potential for growth in the School of Theatre as a concentration within the BFA Acting Program. The program will work across the College of Visual and Performing Arts in collaboration with the Schools of Music and Dance.

Position Responsibilities:
The School of Theatre seeks applications for a full-time Lecturer in Musical Theatre to begin August, 2018. This lecturer will work in close cooperation with the Musical Theatre Program Coordinator and report to the Director of the School of Theatre. She or he will also have a significant role in shaping the direction of this emerging area.
The successful candidate will take on varied responsibilities as the program demands, and we encourage applications from qualified candidates with a range of interests in this discipline. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: music direction; song coaching; directing musical productions/scenes; and teaching musicianship skills for actors and dancers. Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, a knowledge of current trends in the professional industry, and the skills required to work within those trends are essential to this position. Preference will be given to those with strong piano skills. Voice training and/or experience teaching voice is highly desired, and we strongly prefer a candidate who can teach the History of Musical Theatre.

Other responsibilities may include advising students and participating in student recruitment; performing and other service at the department, college and university levels; participating in curriculum development and teaching of other courses to meet the needs of the program and its students.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required education, qualifications, and experience:
MFA in Musical Theatre or commensurate degrees in Music and/or Theatre with extensive professional experience in Musical Theatre.

Preferred qualifications and experience:
We have a strong preference for candidates with: experience working with students in a college musical theatre program; an established relationship with the professional theatre industry; and ideally, experience working on the development of original musicals. Applicants with appropriate training, ability, and/or professional experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.
