Job Description / Duties

The Blake School seeks to hire a Lower School Music Teacher beginning in fall 2023. This is a benefits-eligible, 0.8 FTE position. Working in collaboration with faculty and administrators to implement a creative general music curriculum, the person in this role will teach primarily in the Early Learning Center (grades PK-1), with some classes in Upper Elementary (grades 2-5). In addition to providing musical direction and support for grade-level theatrical productions, the Lower School Music Teacher will coordinate and direct students’ musical participation in regular assemblies, programs and special events.

Qualifications / Required Skills

B.A. in music or music education
Demonstrated experience teaching music with children ages 5-10
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate musical materials from diverse musical styles and cultures
Experience with the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education
Capable of accompanying students on the guitar and/or piano
