Job Description / Duties

The Department of Music in the College of the Arts seeks candidates for a non-tenure track, Limited Term faculty position for the 2020-21 academic year beginning August 1, 2020, and ending May 10, 2021. Rank is dependent upon credentials. All Valdosta State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching courses at multiple levels as needed in their respective disciplines. To carry out our comprehensive mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to successfully engage students as they launch or continue their intellectual journey. Position will be responsible for recruiting and maintaining a high quality studio of undergraduate and graduate voice majors and minors. The position will teach applied students in both the Department of Music and the Theatre program with a Musical Theatre emphasis. Other teaching duties may include: vocal pedagogy, methods, diction, song literature, and/or musical theatre vocal coaching.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications: •MM in voice or an earned DMA (terminal degree required for Assistant Professor rank); •Evidence of an active performing schedule; •Evidence of studio teaching experience at the university level; •Soprano or Mezzo-Soprano voice; •Functional piano skills; •Contemporary commercial music experience in addition to traditional vocal training; •Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship; •Commitment to diversity and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications: •A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage; •Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting; •A records of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
