Job Description / Duties

Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment as Assistant Professor in Music and Director of Choral Activities. The department seeks an active Director/Performer/Scholar with documentation of engaging and critically informed choral rehearsal techniques and artistically distinctive choral performances, the ability to develop choral tone and blend in ensembles comprising current music majors/minors, current non-majors, alumni, and community members, a breadth of knowledge of choral repertoire that supports practical application of performance practice in all style periods, and evidence of potential to develop a national reputation through creative activities and scholarly research.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualified applicants must have a completed DMA or PhD in Choral Conducting, Choral Music, or Sacred Music. ABD applicants will be considered with expectation that all degree requirements will be completed by December 15, 2024. The position will begin on August 15, 2025.

Responsibilities include: conducting two or three auditioned choirs (the Consort Singers, a 20-30 voice mixed chamber choir, the Concert Choir a 50-60 voice choir, and the Oriana Vocal Ensemble, a treble choir of 15-20 voices); teaching undergraduate courses related to the choral discipline (conducting, choral rehearsal methods etc.); overseeing organizational planning for all choral undertakings (concerts, retreats, tours, etc.); offering additional courses commensurate with the applicant's skills or research interests. Such experience in related musical fields is desirable. The ideal candidate will be active in recruitment for the Department of Music in general as well as in attracting new members to the choral ensembles. Applicants must be able to add to and complement the work of the current Music faculty in areas such as departmental administration, student performance evaluation, collaborations, and auditions.

The Music program offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. The music faculty consists of six full-time tenure-track/tenured positions, two full-time clinical positions and 20+ part-time faculty. This faculty is dedicated to supporting a liberal arts curriculum and excellent undergraduate training in Music.
