Description
The University of North Alabama’s Department of Music invites applications for Assistant Professor of Music – Voice beginning in Fall 2024. Tenor, baritone, or bass preferred, but all voice types are encouraged to apply. The Department of Music is a proud member of the School of the Arts, alongside wonderful colleagues from the Departments of Cinematic Arts and Theatre, Visual Arts and Design, and Entertainment Industry. Located in the Shoals, known for its rich musical heritage and active community musical theatre scene, The Department of Music cultivates musicians equipped to contribute to the world stage.
Essential Job Duties

The successful candidate will teach a 12-credit hour course load for the fall and spring semester that encompasses applied voice and other coursework as assigned; direct opera/musical theatre productions; perform student advising duties; provide service to the university community; pursue performance opportunities and other creative/scholarly activities; and perform other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain excellence in teaching while directing student stage productions of varying size, scope, and style, and teach related coursework such as vocal pedagogy and diction as needed; develop and maintain an agenda of research and/or creative activities relevant in the field; perform recruiting activities for the department; attend faculty and other relevant meetings; mentor and provide academic advising to students in the department; and foster diversity and inclusion among students. Minimum Qualifications
A terminal degree in a discipline of voice is required. ABD candidates may be considered but must have completed their terminal degree by the start date of appointment. Experience in teaching collegiate-level applied voice is required. Experience directing opera/musical theatre is preferred. Background teaching collegiate-level vocal pedagogy, vocal diction, and vocal literature is a plus. Candidates must have a proven track record of professional work related to fully-staged productions, concert work, and chamber music.
