The National Association of Teachers of Singing welcomes Lindsay Kate Brown to its national executive staff as membership growth strategist.
In this new part-time role, Brown will focus on expanding and engaging the association’s membership. She brings a variety of experiences to the role. Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brown maintains an independent voice studio and serves as assistant professor of voice at Louisiana State University.
“We’re delighted to welcome Lindsay Kate Brown to the NATS staff in this new role,” said Allen Henderson, executive director. “As a member of NATS Southern Region and a dedicated voice teacher, she has a strong understanding of our field and the needs of both current and prospective members. Lindsay Kate’s background in performance, education and advocacy makes her a great fit as we continue to build and strengthen the NATS community.”
Brown’s responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding, and membership retention across all tiers. She will collaborate closely with the vice president for membership and NATS staff to promote the association while encouraging a sense of community among members.
“I am so excited to be joining the NATS organization in their newly created position, membership growth strategist,” Brown said. “This position combines some of my most favorite things: singing, building communities, and providing access to information and resources to those that need it most.”
As an educator, Brown operates an independent voice studio with students of all ages in a variety of genres. At Louisiana State, she manages a studio of about 15 students and mentors doctoral candidates in pedagogy, professional development and administrative work.
As a performer, Brown has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera and others. She has sung many roles including Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Gertrude in Hansel and Gretel. She has appeared in concert with the South Florida Master Chorale, New Choral Society and the George London Foundation, and received multiple prizes including a George London Foundation award and was a finalist in the Laffont Competition (formerly the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions).
Brown’s also has experience in advocacy and community building. In 2020, she founded the grassroots initiative United in Opera to share information, resources, and mentorship with singers navigating the uncertainty of the pandemic. She has served as PR chair for the NATS Southern Region to support social media efforts and engagement with regional members.
Brown holds an artist diploma in opera from Rice University, a master’s degree in opera from Binghamton University, as well as bachelor’s degrees in music performance and music education from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
