NEW YORK - Seven finalists in the National Music Theater Competition (NMTC) were named and will compete in the final round tonight in The Roosevelt Hotel Grand Ballroom in midtown Manhattan. The competition is being held in conjunction with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Winter Workshop and hosted in front of an audience of top professionals in the music industry.
The 2020 NATS NMTC Finalists are Sarah Ambrose from Glendale, AZ, Lauren Carr from Upper Marlboro, MD, Rebekah Howell from Houston, TX, Julianne McBride from Houston TX, Cassi Mikat from New York, NY, Terrence Searcy from Tifton, GA, and Austin Stole from Richfield, MN.
Their teachers include Christy Welty (Ambrose), Jennifer Mather (Carr), Robert Best (Howell), Karen Rees (McBride), Sally Mikat (Mikat), Joseph Mason (Searcy), and Jerry Elsbernd (Stole).
The NMTC semifinal round took place earlier today, featuring 24 talented young performers who competed in preliminary rounds from across North America last fall. Semifinal and final round collaborative pianists include Mark Fearey, Emily Gantt, Michael Hicks, Gini Law, Joseph Mason, Mory Ortman, Ken Passmore, and Jeannine Rowden.
The National Music Theater Competition (NMTC) was launched in 2011 as the first national competition for the emerging professional music theater soloist. Now in its fifth iteration, NMTC has provided industry connections to past competitors and winners that have led to their success.
