View Intern Program Description

VOICE Intern Application Requirements

A voice intern applicant must be a member of NATS (full or associate) in good standing with no more than five years of full-time teaching or the part-time equivalent. Working as a graduate teaching assistant does not count towards the five-year limit. Holding a Master's Degree or higher is preferable but not required.

Application Checklist

All applications must be completed online at NATS.org, including submission of any and all materials by midnight on December 15, 2017.

  1. Complete the application form (APPLY ONLINE), which will include the upload of a resume.
  2. Provide the name and email address of two NATS members in good standing who will provide references. Once the information is submitted references will automatically be contacted to submit a recommendation letter through the application system. It is always a good idea to follow up by personal e-mail to alert the member that an official request will be forthcoming from NATS.
  3. A brief statement (3-5 paragraphs) addressing the applicant's teaching philosophy and motivation for participating in the program, which will be uploaded through the application portal at NATS.org.
  4. Web links to recordings of the applicant singing in at least three languages, including English. At least one selection must be with piano accompaniment. Video recordings are strongly preferred; audio recordings are acceptable. All applicants, but particularly independent studio teachers, are encouraged to include at least one non-classical song if this literature is in their performing and/or teaching repertoire. Only web links will be accepted.
  5. A web link to a video recording, no more than fifteen minutes in duration, of a sample lesson taught by the applicant. This video may be an edited excerpt from a longer lesson. If a video is password protected, be sure to include the appropriate login credentials to view the post.

All recordings must be posted to a website, such as YouTube, that is accessible to the selection committee. Independent studio teachers should include at least one non-classical song, and all applicants are invited to do so if this literature is in their performing and/or teaching repertoire. NO CD, DVD, or cassette recordings will be accepted

NEW! COLLABORATIVE PIANO Intern Application Requirements

Preference will be given to applicants who are members of NATS (full or associate) in good standing, though non-members may apply with the understanding that all collaborative piano interns chosen will join NATS. Applicants should be at the beginning of their careers with no more than approximately five years of full-time collaborative work/teaching/coaching or the part-time equivalent. Working as a graduate teaching assistant does not count towards the five-year guideline. Holding a Master's Degree or higher is preferable but not required.
