Coffee and Conversation -
The New Triple Threat: Three Myoneural Approaches for Releasing Tongue Tension (and Many Other Vocal Obstacles)

Saturday, June 27 • 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

Presenters: Marci Rosenberg, Robert Sussuma
Location: Lecture Hall

As singers and voice teachers, there are many vocal issues and complaints that we encounter time and again. One of those is tongue tension. Using the release of tongue tension as a primary focus, Robert and Marci will share a model for optimizing myoneural connections (improving the coordination of brain, nerve and muscle) in singers of all styles. This model will provide the conceptual basis for a voice teacher or coach to work with any vocal issue from at least three basic angles: sound, movement and touch. This collaborative, interdisciplinary session delves beyond traditional voice pedagogy practices combining body-based approaches, motor learning principles and physiologic strategies into an experiential format. Interwoven throughout the session are multiple approaches of sound, movement, and touch including variations of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises, self-directed manual techniques, and movement-based sequences for releasing the tongue.
