Bio: Dr. Laura Thomason is a mezzo-soprano, music director, and vocal pedagogue. Originally from South Carolina, Dr. Thomason is committed to the application of evidence-based pedagogy to help her students find their most free and efficient singing. Dr. Thomason’s interests include the elevation of marginalized voices, as well as the study of studio hierarchy and power dynamics. She has presented on these topics for both Southeastern Regional NATS and the NATS Intern Program. Her current research explores emotional intelligence, polyvagal theory, and applications of nervous system regulation in the voice studio. Dr. Thomason has performed with Marble City Opera, GLOW Lyric Theatre, and Mosaic Arts, among others. Notable performances include I Can’t Breathe, The Gondoliers, The Crucible, and Dido and Aeneas. Dr. Thomason holds a DMA in Voice with a Pedagogy Cognate from The University of Mobile, and performance degrees from Indiana University (MM) and Converse University (BM). She has taught at The University of Mobile, Anderson University, University of South Carolina Upstate, and the Lawson Academy at Converse University. Currently, Dr. Thomason serves as a Lecturer in Voice at Columbus State University.
