Bio:

German-Canadian soprano, Sarah Christina Steinert, has established herself as a versatile and sought after artist. Her performances have been praised as "memorable, moving,.. thrilling..and riveting" (Artsforum- J. Arkelian). The 2016-17 season saw Ms. Steinert in Toronto singing with the Toronto Concert Orchestra at Casa Loma, in Ottawa and Montreal reprising the role of Adalgisa in Bellini's Norma, and in Toronto singing Marguerite in Damnation de Faust. Highlights from the 2015-16 season include Madame Defarge the world premier of A Tale of Two Cities with SOLT, Adalgisa in Bellini's Norma, an operatic highlights concert with Oshawa Opera, Papagena in Mozart's Masonic Journey: Die Zauberflöte, and Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos with SOLT. Ms. Steinert was awarded a bursary by the Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation, and had her European debut as Florence Pike with the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, in the Aldeburgh Festival's production of Albert Herring in 2011. As an active performer on both the concert and the operatic stage, Ms. Steinert’s recent engagements include: soloist in Singing Swords with Pellegrini Opera, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with both Voices Relyea and with Capital City Opera, the title role of Carmen with Oshawa Opera, the Raminsh Magnificat, Handel's Messiah, Flora in TOC's La Traviata, Mercedes in Pellegrini Opera’s Carmen and as a member of Opera Lyra Ottawa’s Opera Studio (2009-2011), she had the opportunity to perform the roles of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Dorabella in the Opera Studio's abridged production of Cosi fan Tutte, Papagena in the Opera Studio's abridged production of Die Zauberflöte, and she also premiered the role of the Dog in Dean Burry’s new opera The Bremen Town Musicians.

Ms. Steinert has also completed postgraduate studies at McGill University, where she was awarded a Schulich Scholarship. While at McGill University she performed the role of Don Ettore in La Canterina with the McGill Chamber Orchestra conducted by Boris Brott, Nancy in Albert Herring, and L'Enfant in L'Enfant et les Sortileges. She also received her Master of Music Literature and Performance, and her Honours Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Western Ontario.

Other recent engagements include the Messiah with Durham Girls' Choir and Youth Orchestra, Symphony in the Barn and Vocal Horizons Chamber Choir, concerts with Capitol City Opera, Oshawa Opera, Toronto Opera Collaborative, Pergolesi's Magnificat, the Canadian Opera Company chorus for Il Trovatore, Opera Atelier’s Chorus for La Clemenza di Tito, Mozart's C Minor Mass, Fanny in Florence: Lady of the Lamp, Dido and Aeneas with the VSO, the Banff Centre's Opera as Theatre program for Filumena, Handel's Messiah with the Guelph Chamber choir and Music Viva Orchestra, Beethoven's Symphony no. 9, op. 125 with Symphony Hamilton, Cecilia March in Little Women, the Old Lady in Candide, the Mother/Grandmother in Little Red Riding Hood, the Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, and the Mother in Hänsel und Gretel.

Ms. Steinert's additional past credits include Studio Instructor for the Bravo Academy for the Performing Arts, Instructor at McGill University, Studio Instructor at CMA, Director of St. George's musical theatre summer program in Vancouver 2007-2008, and assistant conductor for the women's choir Trinity Singers at Trinity College School 2004-2005. Ms. Steinert was also a finalist in the London Opera Guild Competition 2001.
